CU Muslim Action Committee remembers and honors the first Palestinian Intifada. Today, we reflect on the 37th anniversary of the first Palestinian Intifada, a powerful chapter in the story of resistance against injustice. It was a movement led by ordinary people—families, youth, and communities—rising together to demand their rights and their freedom.
The word intifada literally means to shake or dust off and refers to population uprisings in Arabic. The first Palestinian Intifada was a series of primarily spontaneous acts of civil disobedience throughout Palestinian villages, towns, and cities. Lasting from 1987 to 1994, it marked a turning point in Palestinian resistance against Israeli aggression and occupation.
The Intifada reminds us of the unshakable Palestinian spirit: a spirit that persists today despite unimaginable hardships. As we honor this legacy, let us recommit to standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Through action, advocacy, and the BDS movement, we can carry forward the call for justice, freedom, and dignity.
Together, we remember.
Together, we resist.
Together, we work…
…for a better future.
